RYAN THOMBS, P.K. YONGE
Credentials
The senior finished second in the area with a .563 batting average, while driving in 32 runs and scoring 35 times in leading the Blue Wave (24-5) to their first district championship since 2002. In March, instability in his right shoulder caused Thombs pain in his deltoid muscle which prevented the righthander from pitching this spring. He was on a rehabilitation program during the season, which landed him in the designated hitter role, before playing most of the season at third base and at second base. Thombs, who has signed with Lake Erie College, a Division-II school in Painesville Ohio, also hit two home runs, 10 doubles, stole 11 bases and also owned an on base percentage of .602. Thombs said his shoulder is fully recovered and he has already pitched in a summer league game in Ohio.
"It was nice," Thombs said. "It was great to finally get that (the district championship) especially in my senior season."
Ryan also gained "All-area First Team" selection (article) and Athlete of the year Honorable Mention (article) for his outstanding season at Florida's PK Young.
